NASM developed the Corrective Exercise Strategies for Basketball course in partnership with the National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association (NBATA). This course focuses on identifying movement dysfunctions and applying corrective strategies to support basketball athletes.
Corrective Exercise Strategies for Basketball is designed for licensed professionals who work with basketball athletes and want to better understand movement dysfunction, assessment techniques, and corrective exercise strategies.
Through this course, participants will explore human movement science, common lower extremity and torso movement compensations, and the assessment methods used to identify movement limitations. These may include compensations such as feet turning out or flattening, knees moving inward, and excessive forward lean.
The course also covers corrective strategies using the traditional corrective exercise continuum model, including inhibit, lengthen, activate, and integrate. Participants will also learn about advanced techniques such as soft tissue release, myopractic techniques, neuromuscular stretching, and positional isometrics.
This course equips participants with a clearer understanding of corrective exercise strategies for basketball athletes. Key outcomes include identifying movement dysfunctions, understanding common basketball-related compensations, applying assessment techniques, and using corrective strategies to support movement quality and reduce injury risk.
