Deliver results that resonate with her physiology. The NASM Women’s Fitness Specialization (WFS) program teaches fitness professionals how to design safe, effective, and empowering training programs tailored to the unique needs of women across all life stages, goals, and training styles.

This course covers hormonal changes, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, and other physiological transitions. Participants will learn to customize resistance training, cardiovascular workouts, and flexibility programs to support female clients in achieving stronger, healthier, and more confident versions of themselves.

Prerequisites: A fitness or wellness credential, or a bachelor’s degree, is recommended but not required. The course is designed for certified personal trainers, wellness professionals, nutrition coaches, group fitness instructors, and physical education teachers. 

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

Welcome to the Women’s Fitness Specialization  

Chapter 1: Current Status of Women’s Health

After this chapter, students will understand the stages of the female lifespan, common health issues, key fitness-related mental health topics, and when to refer female clients to medical professionals. 

Chapter 2: Neuromuscular, Skeletal, Cardiorespiratory, and Endocrine Considerations

After this chapter, students will understand women’s physical changes across the lifespan, key anatomical and physiological differences from men, and considerations for training pubescent, prenatal/postpartum, and peri- or postmenopausal clients. 

Chapter 3: Hormones and Weight Control

After this chapter, students will understand the three body types, factors and hormones affecting weight control, the impact of the food environment, and how aging influences weight management. 

Chapter 4: Pregnancy and Postnatal Considerations

After this chapter, students will understand the stages of pregnancy, follow ACOG exercise guidelines, recognize physiological and anatomical changes, and apply suitable exercise modifications for each stage. 

Chapter 5: Menopause Considerations

After this chapter, students will understand the physiological changes and stages of menopause, incorporate symptom-specific strategies into client programs, and apply suitable exercise modifications. 

Chapter 6: Fitness Assessments for Women

After this chapter, students will understand the benefits of fitness assessments for women, conduct subjective and objective assessments across life stages, apply modifications for pregnancy or aging, and align assessments with client program needs. 

Chapter 7: Flexibility Training for Women

After this chapter, students will understand the benefits of flexibility training for women, apply various stretching and myofascial techniques, make modifications for pregnancy and menopause, and consider posture in flexibility training. 

Chapter 8: Cardiorespiratory Training for Women

After this chapter, students will understand the benefits of cardiorespiratory training for women, design programs for all ages and fitness levels, teach clients how to monitor intensity, and modify programs for different female life stages. 

Chapter 9: Core, Balance, Plyometric, and SAQ Training for Women

After this chapter, students will understand the benefits of core, balance, plyometric, and SAQ training for women, integrate these exercises into programs, apply modifications for pregnancy or menopause, and consider female-specific factors. 

Chapter 10: Resistance Training for Women

After this chapter, students will understand the legal and ethical responsibilities of a Women’s Fitness Specialist, identify business opportunities, create products and services, set appropriate pricing, and market and sell with integrity.

Final Exam

You have 365 days from your date of purchase to pass your exam. After completing the course, you will take a timed online exam consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions. The exam must be completed within 90 minutes. To pass the exam, you must achieve a minimum score of 70%; if you do not, you have up to three attempts to reach this requirement.
